The Department of Computer Science is offering undergraduate degree in Computer Science under University of Calcutta. Computer Science department of Maheshtala College started journey from the year 2001. Then it offered only General Course. After that, from the year 2005, the department started the honours course. The primary goal of the department is to provide basic as well as advanced quality education in Computer Science in Under Graduate level. The department is full of learning resources, a huge amount of books in departmental library and central library, a well-equipped laboratory with latest software and instruments for digital and analog experiments.  At present department has four full-time Faculty members. Besides teaching they are also actively engaged in research and publishing papers in journals. The department is providing basic level computer course to all the students of the college irrespective of the stream. The future plan of the department is to introduce postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Distance education programme and Professional courses.

 

Apart from the regular classroom teaching, the faculty members use ICT facilities to enrich the teaching learning process. The students are given study materials, regular mentoring is also done. Career counselling is also done by the faculty members. The department has arranged a UGC Sponsored National Level Seminar. The faculty members regularly organise guest lecture sessions in which eminent faculty from different universities, colleges deliver their speech. The students are encouraged for learner-centric student seminar, model preparation, chart preparation etc. The alumni of this department are well placed in the different places. It is a continuous effort of the teachers of the Department to make the students fit for the outside world.
