The Department of Geography is offering undergraduate degree in Geography and the department was established in the year 2002, starting with B.A / B.Sc. (Honours & General) course in Geography. The primary objective of this department of excellence is to impart both basic and advanced quality education in Geography in under-graduate level under the CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) that is introduced by the University of Calcutta from the year 2018. The department is well equipped with learning resources. The department is equipped by a computer lab with latest GIS software and packages, well-stocked instruments, departmental library and class rooms with ICT facility. The steady and continuous flow of meritorious and persevering students has helped this department to grow as prominent center of teaching and learning Geography. The Department also plans to develop a state of art Remote Sensing and GIS laboratory for the students so that they can have access to the most updated knowledge of this branch of Geography which is emerging as a potential area of recruitment. The future plans also include postgraduate degree in Geography and a diploma course in Remote Sensing and GIS.

 

     This department has organized several lectures, UGC Sponsored National Seminar, classroom debates, inter-college geo–quiz, map drawing contest, field photograph exhibition and work-shops in Contemporary Techniques in Geography which were delivered by eminent professor of University of Calcutta. It also arranges short field trips, brings out wall magazine, photo corner, and bulletins. It also gives away prizes to the toppers in examinations. The mentor group teaching members are all contributing enough time to students. All the Teaching faculties of the department are engaged in research work along with their academic activities. The faculty members are actively engaged in research and publishing papers in peer reviewed state-level, national and international journals along with teaching. Our alumni are presently well placed in the different walks of the life in India and abroad.
