The department of Sanskrit, Maheshtala College started its journey in 1971by offering general course. This department started Honours course in 2003. The intake capacity of this department for Honours course is 26. At present the department has two full time teachers in the designation of Assistant Professor and also guest teachers.

The teachers of this department adopt power point presentation and internet facilities for teaching the students apart from the regular class lectures. The departmental teachers also use email and whatsapp as the medium of teaching. The students of this department can avail the facility of departmental library and central library. This department arranges guest lecture sessions, departmental seminars, students’ seminars, film shows etc. for the betterment of the students. This department also publishes wall magazines. The teachers of this department try to improve the educational quality of the students many a year following various useful means.
